About Envirohome

Envirohome L.L.C. was founded in 2012 to help reduce carbon emissions through decreased production but now is shifting the focus to carbon capture on a gigaton scale.

Envirohome intends to employ the use of Blue Ocean Alkalinization for the purpose of changing the pH of portions of coral reef with the intent of slowly returning reef calcification to more pre-industrial levels. Using medium level pathways. The alkalization process will be closely monitored by experts in coral reef health while at the same time achieving proof of concept and safety to coral ecosystems. Our team is based on the concept that traditional engineering solutions will not be able to scale up to absorb potentially gigatons of CO2 and capture it in Calcium minerals. Our method will be based on papers by Dr. Rebecca Albright et al in Nature, Reversal of ocean acidification enhances net coral reef calcification (3/2016), the 2019 proceeding of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement written by Antonio Gagern and Robert Paul Waldron's (Southeastern Louisiana University) Oyster reef habitat Carbon Dioxide sequestering.

  1. We know that acidification of coral reefs is projected to cause net dissolution of calcium.
  2. Dr. Albright was able to show that restoration of pH closer to pre-industrial conditions resulted in net community calcification using controlled release of sodium hydroxide over a small area of the great barrier reef.
  3. Robert Paul Waldron's research showing oyster reef habitat Carbon Dioxide sequestering has demonstrated sustainable reef production can be shown to bind atmospheric CO2 and to buffer coastal waters against the effects of regional acidification.
  4. My team using guidelines from this paper and others, intends to demonstrate that medium scale targeting of ocean reefs with monitoring of reef health and changes in calcification will cumulatively sequester large amounts of carbon dioxide.

Numbers indicate the metre-spacing from the centre of the study area, denoted as U0 for the upstream transect and D0 for the downstream transect. The outermost sampling locations for the upstream (−U16, U16) and downstream (−D16, D16) transects define the four outermost corners of the study area and were strategically positioned to lie outside the alkalinity–dye plume, rendering zero dye concentrations and added alkalinity.

Ocean Alkalinization: Explained

Ocean Nets.eu: Alkalinity is the capacity of a solution to neutralize acid. By increasing the alkalinity of the upper ocean, the carbon storage capacity of seawater can be enhanced and thus, more CO2 can be taken up by the ocean.
